For the implementation of “Laadli Beti Scheme” on pilot basis in Anantnag District, threadbare discussions were held today in a meeting held under the chairmanship of District Development Commissioner, Anantnag, Mr. Muneer-ul-Islam.It was informed in the meeting that the “Laadli Beti Scheme” will be launched in Anantnag District on 04th of November 2015 at Auditorium Hall, of GDC, Anantnag. This scheme is also being implemented in other five districts of the state.“Laadli Beti” is a social assistance scheme meant for new born girl child with the purpose to reverse the alarming trend of declining child sex ratio in the state. As per census 2011, Anantnag has abysmally low sex ratio of 841. The scheme considers a life cycle approach addressing the concerns of girl’s right from the birth to adulthood and providing financial security that enables to create a strong positive disposition to the girl child.A contribution of Rs.1000/- per month towards birth of every girl child w.e.f. 01-04-2015 shall be made for which designated banks will have to open accounts in respect of the families whose annual income dose not exceed beyond Rs.75000. The contribution will be made for 14 years and the maturity period will be 21 years after which the mature claims shall entail Rs. 6.5 lacs.DDC directed the concerned revenue officers to issue income certificates after due verification and proper documentation.The meeting was also attended by ADDC, DPO, SDM’s, Tehsildars, CDPO’s, and district lead bank manager.
