Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Simrandeep Singh convened a meeting of district officers to review the arrangements  put in place for smooth conduct of religious Jhiri Mela, which is  thronged by lakh of devotees.The Jhiri Mela being held in the memory of farmer and great saint Baba Jitto, who alongwith his daughter Bua Kauri fought and sacrificed their lives to ensure justice to his people against the feudal system.DDC asked the officers to maintain close coordination between the Management Committee and different agencies associated with the Mela to ensure successful conduct of this annual event.

The DDC gave thrust on ensuring  un-interrupted power,  water supply and adequate stock of medicines and other essentials at the Mela site. He also directed for ensuring proper sanitation during the Mela.

He was informed that better road connectivity to Jhiri temple and adjoining areas has been ensured and blacktopping work on important roads in Marh has already been initiated and other patch work would also be finished at the earliest.BDO Marh was directed to take up  construction of additional sanitary units and renovation of the existing toilets. SP Rural was asked to identify location for installation of High Mask lights by the PDD.DDC enjoined upon the officers to gear up their preparations to ensure smooth conduct of this historical event and make it more alluring for the pilgrims and tourists who visit this Mela in large numbers from within and outside the State.Among others, SSP Traffic Jammu Mohan Lal, ACG Shenaz Choudhary, SP Rural Rajiv Pandey, SDM Marh Hitesh Gupta, other senior officers of concerned departments attended the meeting.
