Eight militants killed in Pakistan's Karachi

At least eight suspected militants were killed in a clash with police in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi on Saturday, officials said.According to Geo News Rao Iftikhar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), said that the police conducted a search operation in Northern Bypass area of Karachi, capital city of the country's south Sindh province, during which the militants hurled hand grenade at them from a compound.

The attack triggered a gun battle between police and the militants, leading to the deaths of eight terrorists and injuries to two policemen including an official.The SSP said the killed militants were members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and were plotting major attacks during the forthcoming Islamic holy month of Muharram.He added that the dead terrorists were also involved in targeted killings of policemen in Karachi.
