The Sharjah Ladies Club’s (SLC) Women Sports Department is still accepting applications from government and private institution employees who wish to compete in the 2nd Sharjah Women Sports Cup. 12 institutions have confirmed their participation since registration - which ends on Wednesday - opened a month ago for career- and sportswomen who want to contend for its volleyball, basketball and archery winning trophies. The tournament, which will kick off on October 24th and 25th at the SLC Sports Hall, aims to raise awareness about the importance of women in sports, and to highlight the role of sports in enhancing one’s production capacities and psychological and social stability.Nada Al Naqbi, Director of the SLC’s Women Sports Department, spoke about the event: "This 2nd cup’s planning and organization follow the directives of Her HighnessSheikhaJawaherbint Mohammed Al Qasimi, wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and Chairperson of the Sharjah Ladies Club, who advocates the need to reinforce the presence of women in the athletic arena. We thank Her Highness for her continuous support in promoting women's sports in the UAE in general, and Sharjah in particular."

Al Naqbi added: "Our Department is working hard to prepare for this year’s cup, in line with our commitment to encourage professional women to adopt healthy athletic lifestyles that positively affect morale and enhance leadership capacities. Our goal is to connect employees of both the public and private sectors to promote the principles of competition and cooperation among them, as well as exercise as a sustainable way of life."Confirmed participants thus far include the Sharjah Cooperative Society, Holiday Inn Hotel, Hilton Hotel, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, the SLC and its branches, the Sharjah Girl Guides, Al Jawaher Reception and Convention Centre, the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, Sharjah Police General Directorate, the Sharjah Directorate of Human Resources and the Department of Health Education.

The Sharjah Women Sports Tournament is a competitive and recreational sports event that brings together employees working in the government and private sectors in the Emirate of Sharjah. It was launched by the Women Sports Department at the Sharjah Ladies Club last year. It aims to involve female employees in sports and athletic events, and encourage them to exercise in order to discover and develop potential talents and build national UAE teams capable of winning titles in foreign leagues. The event will include sports competitions in volleyball, basketball, and archery matches.
