Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Saturday appealed to the people of the state not to fall prey to the evil designs of communal forces.Stating that an attempt was being made to import "beef politics" to the state by fringe groups of the BJP, Gogoi also said jihadi groups were trying to create disturbance and vitiate the communal amity of the state."The government is maintaining a close vigil over the situation and timely intervention of the government machinery prevented the situation from snowballing into chaos," he said.Gogoi reminded everyone about the age-old communal amity and secular harmony among different communities in Assam."Assam is a land known for its age-old communal amity and secular harmony. I urge everybody to maintain the social fabric of the state which is based on the teachings of Sankardev, Madhavdev and Ajan Fakir," he said.
Meanwhile, Bharatiya Janata Party Lok Sabha member from Guwahati Bijoya Chakrabarty slammed Gogoi for his statement and said the chief minister had already destabilised the state during the 15-year Congress rule."The Congress government in Assam has already destabilised Assam. The state has already been disorganised. There is no unity among people of different communities and the Congress has destroyed the social fabric that binds the different communities in Assam together," she said."The chief minister knows nothing except corruption and people know this. The people of Assam also know what the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi is doing for the region. Gogoi will get a strong answer from the people in next year's election," she said.
