Assailing the Congress party for deceiving the weaker and downtrodden sections of the state, the Punjab Chief MinisterParkash Singh Badal today said that the Congress has always pursued the policy of ‘pide and Rule’ for the sake of its vested political interests.Addressing the gathering during Sangat Darshan program of the Lambi assembly segment here today, the Chief Minister said that the Congress had remained at the helms of the affairs for a long period since independence but it has not even formulated a single welfare scheme for the well being of disadvantaged sections. He said that the result of it was that the countrymen were striving for the basic civic amenities even after more than six decades of freedom. Mr. Badal said that the slogans like ‘Garibi Hatao’ given by the Congress leaders had merely proved to be hollow promises and a sizeable chunk of country’s population was finding it tough to manage two square meals a day.

Exhorting the people to route the Congress from power at centre, the Chief Minister said that it was the only solution to solve the long pending problems faced by the country. He said that it was on record that the countrymen were fed up from the wrong and anti-people policies of the Congress party and were eagerly waiting for the general elections to show Congress party the door. Mr. Badal said that due to the mounting anger amongst people, no one could stop the decimation of the Congress party from the country. The Chief Minister said that all the opinion and exit polls of the four states, where voting has just concluded, were showing the debacle of Congress in all these states, which was a reflection of the public outrage against this party. He said that the Congress would be trounced badly in all these states adding that it was the high time that all of us should join hands for defeating the Congress party in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls as it was the only way for ushering an era of unprecedented development in the state. Mr. Badal said that with the defeat of the Congress party in general elections the party would be eliminated from the country.

The Chief Minister further said that it was a fact that the Congress has never staged a comeback in the state where it has been defeated consecutively. Citing the examples of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and others, he said that the Congress had been rejected by the wise voters of these states time and again. Mr. Badal said that in Punjab the SAD-BJP alliance has created a history by winning the state assembly elections consecutively.Slamming the Congress party for its anti-Punjab stance, the Chief Minister said that the state has been a victim of the step motherly treatment meted out by the Congress to it. He said that the state has been deprived of its capital, legitimate share in river waters and Punjab speaking areas. Mr. Badal said that not only this but the Congress party has given a major blow to the Sikh psyche by attacking Sri Durbar Sahib in 1984.

On the occasion, the Chief Minister also announced that the state government would give 50% subsidy to the women dairy farmers for setting up the Dairy units in the state. He said that as the agriculture was no longer a profitable preposition so the farmers must adopt the allied farming activities to supplement their income. Underscoring the need for making use of agriculture implement and machinery on custom hire basis from the village based agriculture cooperative societies instead of incurring heavy expenditure on its purchase, Mr. Badal said that the state government was already granting huge subsidies to the Agriculture Cooperative societies to promote the utilization of latest agriculture equipment at nominal charges amongst the farmers. The Chief Minister said that the policy of the state government to give incentives to the Basmati cultivators was paying huge pidends to the farmers, who have got good price of their harvest. Expressing profound grief and sorrow over the sad demise of former African President Mr. Nelson Mandela, Mr. Badal said that he was a great leader of the world who would be ever remembered for his unparallel struggle to emancipate the weaker sections of the society. In villages Dhaula Khingra, Laalvahi and others many leaders of the Congress party and BSP announced to join the Akali fold. Welcoming them to the party fold the Chief Minister said that it would further strengthen the party in the state. The Chief Minister was accompanied by his Special Principal Secretary Mr. KJS Cheema.
