Inaugurates dog sterilization facility at Shuhama

The Minister for Urban Development and UEED, Nawang Rigzin Jora inaugurated dog sterilization facility at Shuhama today, constructed at a cost of Rs. 121 lakhs. The facility consists of specially designed 50 kennels and operation theatre.The facility was created to carry out the Animal Birth Control and Anti-Rabies Programmes in the Valley to control and manage the stray dog population. The programme was launched by Srinagar Municipal Corporation in collaboration with SKUAST-Kashmir and Animal Welfare Board of India under the court directions to curb the dog menace in the city.The Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir, Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.The Minister on the occasion said that Government is committed to provide all the basic amenities to people. He said that Omar Abdullah led government is making efforts to ensure inclusive development of all the three regions of the State.The Vice-Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir gave a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the achievements registered under the Animal Sterilization Programmes in the Srinagar city. It was given out that stray dog population has declined remarkably as stray dog population stands at 28,949 dogs as against 90,000 during 2011 as per the census conducted by direct count method by Srinagar Municipal Corporation and confirmed by Animal Husbandry department.Later, the Minister visited Eidgah to review the pace of construction work of Housing Colony coming up at Tibeti Colony Eidgah.The Minister was informed that the building consists of 36 dwelling units and Rs. 2.20 crore are being expended on the building. Mr. Jora urged the executing agency to expedite the work on the building so that its benefits are accrued to the people.Later, the Minister flagged off 04 garbage Compacting vehicles which have been placed at different roads, lanes and bye-lanes in the Srinagar City and are also compatible with Hopper vehicles introduced recently by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
