Army under the aegis of Chinar Corps organised a mega ex-serviceman mela at Drugmulla garrison today to commemorate golden jubilee of 1965 war, defence spokesman said in a statement.He said that ex-servicemen, Veer Naris of nearby area alongwith representatives of the District Soldier Board, civil dignitaries of Kupwara including Mr Aiyad Bhat SP, Kupwara and the local populace of the villages near Drugmulla Garrison attended the event which was celebrated with lot of fervor. Many serving Army officers interacted with the veterans and their dependents at the venue.The function commenced with screening of a movie on 1965 War highlighting the thumping victory achieved by the Indian Armed Forces and the sacrifices made by our veterans to safeguard the sovereign integrity of our nation from the attempted Pakistan aggression.
The event also provided an opportunity to the serving soldiers to bond with the veterans and their dependents as also the locals. The veterans were provided with pamphlets highlighting the latest welfare schemes for the veterans and their dependents. The veterans and the local population expressed their heartfelt appreciation to the Army for organising the event thereby showcasing commitment to veterans. Similar events were organised at Gurez and Tangdhar which also received immense participation of the veterans and local populace.Army is organising a series of events to commemorate Golden Jubilee of 1965 war. The mega event on 1965 war is also being organised at Badami Bagh Cantonment on 22 September to remember the supreme sacrifices made by men in uniform in line of duty. (KNS)
