Punjab Vidhan Sabha speaker Dr Charanjit Singh Atwal today said that the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party led Punjab government is committed for providing world class sports infrastructure to the youth. He said that the state government is not only providing sports infrastructure, but is also supporting sportspersons financially. He said this while inaugurating a gymnasium at GGN Khalsa College, here today.While addressing the students, Dr Atwal informed that for supporting the sportspersons financially, the Punjab government recently gave cash awards to several sportspersons who have brought accolades for the state in international as well as national level sports events.

He said that for strengthening the overall sports culture and infrastructure of the state, the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party government in Punjab has created a special fund of Rs 200 crore. He said that due to the efforts of Punjab CM Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, the Punjab government has given jobs to 125 sportspersons in the state. Dr Atwal further said that Kabaddi sport is being promoted by the Punjab government by organising Kabaddi World Cups. He said that its Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal's dream that one day Kabaddi would become part of Olympics.College Principal Dr. Manjit Singh Komal highlighted life and achievements of Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal and said that he is an alumni of this college. Dr. Atwal also shared his days as a student in this college and he advised the students to give respect to their teachers from the core of their hearts.Prominent among those present on the occasion included Prof Pirthipal Singh Kapoor, Prof Rajinder Singh, Mr Kuldeep Singh, Mr Hardeep Singh, besides several others.
