LMD team charges Rs 16000 fine from erring traders

The  legal Metrology Department Kathua has  compounded nine traders and charged  Rs 16000 fine from them   for violation of various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement (Amendment) Act 2011 and Package Commodities Rules.Assistant controller Legal Metrology Kathua Ajay  Kumar Verma leading a team Comprising of Inspector Legal Metrology Kathua and Dayala Chack   conducted several   market checkings during the current month during which  various Business Establishments especially Karayana shop, Ration Dealers, General Stores, Provisional Stores, Milk Shops, Iron/Steel traders, Welding Shops, Vegetable/Fruit sellers were inspected  in tehsil Kathua Hiranagar, Nagri, Billawer of district Kathua.

During Inspection approximately 70 traders were inspected of which  12  were found  violating various provisions of J&K Weights and Measures Enforcement (Amendment) Act 2011and Package Commodities Rules. 9 Challans of the booked traders were Compounded and a penalty of Rs 16000 was imposed on the erring traders for violation of various provisions of J&K weights and Measures Act Enforcement (Amendment) Act 2011and Package Commodities Rules during the current month.

The Department booked a Wholesale shop at Dayalachack for selling the Amritsari Gold Spicy Masala Bari packages without mandatory declarations as per Package Commodities Rules. Accordingly the case was registered for said violation and Notice was issued to the offenders.After going through the correspondences with the management of the offender including supplier, the fault was admitted by the management and on the assurance by the offenders not to repeat the same fault in future, the Case was compounded for Rs 10000 by the Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Kathua.The Department also directed all the traders to use only verified Weights and Measures and Weighing &Measuring Instruments for Business transactions and display MRP, PKD, Net Contents and complete address and Customer care Helpline Number on the Commodities to be sold in package Form.The Department has also warned the unscrupulous traders to desist from using unfair trade practices to cheat the innocent Consumers and also appealed the Consumers to remain vigilant while purchasing the Commodities.
