Heavy rains lashed twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Friday, inundating low-lying areas and disrupting normal life in the peak evening hours.For a fourth consecutive day, the city experienced rains in the evening hours, turning the roads into virtual cesspools and causing severe hardship to motorists.Overflowing drains, manholes and damaged roads made the conditions worse for peak hour traffic. The pedestrians were a worried lot as open manholes on the roads in the past have claimed lives.Long traffic snarls were seen at the busy crossroads across the twin cities as downpour for nearly two hours inundated the roads.A motorbike was washed away in swirling water on a road at Krishna Nagar. Many two wheelers were almost drowned on a road at Ameerpet, a busy commercial area.

Panjagutta, Banjara Hills, Dilsukhnagar, Ameerpet, Abids, Basheerbagh, Lakdi Ka Pul, Koti, Kuttapet, Saroornagar, S.R. Nagar, Patny Centre, Paradise, Addagutta, Tukkaram Gate, Erragadda, Bora Banda, Mehdipatnam and other busy areas witnessed long traffic jams.A car was damaged when a tree fell down at Andhra Pradesh secretariat due to strong wind which accompanied the rains.With met office forecasting more rains over next five to six days, the citizens fear more harrowing times.Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) received calls from several areas about water logging. The civic body deployed 86 emergency teams to tackle the situation.

GHMC opened control rooms in all four zones to attend the water stagnation complaints.Several parts of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh continued to receive rains under the impact of low pressure area. Kundu river in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh in spate due to heavy rains in Kurnool district.Two women died of lightening in Mahabubnagar district of Telangana. The women were working in an agriculture field in Peddapur in Nagarkurnool of Mahabubnagar district. Two others were also injured.Two women were injured in another incident of lightening of Adilabad district.According to meteorological department, southwest monsoon is active over Telangana, coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema.With the low pressure persisting, the met office has forecast moderate to heavy rains in both the state. It also warned of heavy rainfall in many districts Telangana and in coastal Andhra region till Sep 15.
