District Development Commissioner, Kulgam, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah today inaugurated Entrepreneurship Programme cum Rozgar Mela,here at Government Degree College, Kulgam. The Rozgar Mela was sponsored by J&K Entrepreneurship Development Institute (J&KEDI) in collaboration with Government Degree College, Kulgam and District Employment Office.The function was attended by the District Panchayat Officer, CEO, Aharbal Development Authority, ARTO and the officers of Horticulture, Agriculture, Fisheries, District Industries & Commerce and other allied departments and the representatives of the Banks. Besides, more than 800 entrepreneurs and students attended the function.District Development Commissioner exhorted upon the educated youth, particularly who have completed their studies, to channelize their energies for new and profitable sectors like horticulture, food processing, IT, tourism, handicrafts, etc.
For skilling the youth, District Development Commissioner informed that he has already taken up the matter with the Institute of Hotel Management (affiliated with Govt of India) to impart skills in service sector as tourist guides particularly in view of the scenic tourist spots of the district like Aharbal.
He called upon the entrepreneurs to take up new activities as there is a large scope for the development of food processing industry, handicrafts, etc in the district due to the availability of the raw material, skills and suitable climate. For this, he impressed upon the Bank representatives to facilitate the loans and lend cooperation to the interested entrepreneurs.Later, the details of various schemes like HIMAYAT, SKEWPY, Youth Start up Loan Scheme (YSLS), etc of the J&KEDI were provided.The success stories of the successful entrepreneurs were also narrated so as to motivate the youth to take up self-employment ventures.
