The 21st Delhi Book Fair and its concurrent event the 17th Stationery/ Office Automation and Corporate Gifts Fair is now half way through its duration. The nine day event revolves around the theme of “Skill Development” this year and many publishers and distributors have presented a stock of books on various skills.The Federation of Indian Publishers (F.I.P.) organizes a drawing and painting competition every year for students at the Delhi Book Fair. The annual competition was held today for two age groups; Group I for children aged 5 to 10 years and Group II for children who were 11 to 16 years old. More than 500 children from various schools crowded the lobby of the Book Fair for the competition. The winners of the competition received books, medals, cups and other goodies from F.I.P. Navya Sahani from Hans Raj Public School stood first from Group I and Abhishek Kumar from Uttarakhand Public School topped Group II. The Chief Guest Dr. Ashok Gupta, President of F.I.P. and Director of the Delhi Book Fair awarded the children for their talent and participation and said, “Children are more creative and talented with every passing year. We organize this competition annually and are astonished to see that the result keeps getting better each time.”

Amity University hosted a story-telling session for primary and middle school children. It was attended by over ten schools of Delhi NCR. The teachers of Amity International Schools conducted the session. Around 200 students accompanied by their teachers were present at the event.Apart from promoting the theme of skill development, other fictional and non-fictional books are also available at the Delhi Book Fair. One will also find a number of spiritual and religious reads around the fair. Non-profit organizations like the Ramakrishna Mission, Osho Darshan and International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) are also present at the fair to create awareness and enhance the interests of spirituality in people. One such stall is of “Sahaj Yoga” that attracts visitors of the fair with their ideology of practical experience of the energy in the environment and the implication of yoga. 

Lifi Publications released many new books today at the fair. The Chief Guest of the event were Professor Alok Bhalla, renowed author and literary critic and Dr. Anand Kumar, Department of Reproductive Biology at AIIMS. Among them were “The Story of Tublu” by Mr. Jahid Akhtar, “The World United” by Peter Fama, “The Last Disciple Nalanda” by Suresh Nair and “The Wrong Vantage Point” authored by Adwitiya Borah.The Federation of Indian Publishers will be hosting the Award Ceremony for Excellence in Book Production tomorrow at 4pm. Shri Baldeo Bhai Sharma, Chairman of National Book Trust (NBT) will be the Chief Guest of the event. It will be attended by all major publishers and publishing houses that are participating in the fair. 

Tomorrow’s highlights:


~ Book launch by Times Group Books of “Srimad Bhagavad Gita” translated in Hindi by Yog Guru Shri Surakshit Goswami and Ms. Jaya Wahi’s “Sai Baba Is Still Alive”.

~ Award Ceremony for Excellence in Book Production organized by the Federation of Indian Publishers.

~ Workshop organized by Lekhika Sangh at the Pragati Auditorium.

~ Story Telling session by Amity University at Author’s Corner I.

~Book Release function by Vision Books.
