At least 26 people were killed in attacks by suspected Boko Haram militants on two villages in Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, a local guard said on Wednesday. The fighters late on Monday stormed Kolori and Ba'ana Imam villages, Mamma Usman, a local vigilante group member told Xinhua, adding ten others were injured."Boko Haram entered Kolori on horse and started shooting at the people," Usman quoted survivors as saying, adding 18 people were killed in Kolori. The attackers also looted houses of the victims, carting away their food and livestock, he said.A survivor identified as Mohammed Ali said those who were not seriously injured were taken to a camp for refuge and given necessary medical assistance.

The militant group Boko Haram has carried out a series of attacks in restive Borno state. The attacks come one day after Nigerian troops reclaimed the strategic town of Gamboru Ngala in Borno.President Muhammadu Buhari two weeks ago ordered the army to end the six-year insurgency of Boko Haram within three months.Boko Haram has been waging war against the government since 2009, killing more than 13,000 people.
