Minister for Medical Education, Youth Service and Sports, Taj Mohi-ud-Din today reviewed the pace of work of under construction stadium at Anantnag to facilitate the youth with the availability of better infrastructure to promote sports activities in the district administration.The Minister was accompanied by Secretary J&K Sports Council, Mr. Dileep Thusoo, District Development Commissioner Anantnag, Dr. Farooq Ahmad Lone and officers of the district.The Minister was apprised that the renovation work of the stadium is being carried out at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.45 crore, of which Rs. 65 lakhs have been expended already. He fixed April 2014 as the final target of completion of the renovation work of the stadium.The Minister directed the concerned agencies for gearing up their men and machinery so that the pace of work is speeded up and the project is completed well within the stipulated time.
The Minister also visited the upcoming stadium at Bijbehara and took stock of the works being undertaken. He impressed upon the engineers to complete the stadium within the stipulated time so that local youth get the facility within their locality.Interacting with the public, the Minister said that Government has formulated a defined strategy for development of sports infrastructure in the State so that every facility is provided to the youth in such a manner that their talent is explored to bring laurels to the State.The Minister further said that national and international sports events are being organized in the State which will provide an opportunity to the local sports persons to interact and compete with the national and international level players.Later in the day, the Minister presided over the concluding function of Water Sports Festival at Nehru Park, Srinagar. He distributed prizes among the winning teams and asked the organisers to hold more and more water sports meets to attract youth and popularise the sport among them.The water sports festival was organised by J&K State Sports Council.
