Hands over cheques to families as flood relief

Reiterating the government commitment to connect far off and isolated areas of the state with roads to foster development in these areas, Minister of State for Fisheries and Cooperatives Dr Manohar Lal Sharma Tuesday said that government has initiated several projects in Kandi, Hilly and border areas of the state to upgrade civic amenities in these areas. He was speaking at foundation stone laying ceremony in Thamnal in Tehsil Billawar.Dr Manohar Lal Sharma laid foundation stone of Katli- Gujjar Basti road to be constructed at an estimated cost of 148.60 lakhs under Bad Pocket District Plan scheme. The Minister also convened a public grievance camp at Matli in which people apprised the minister about their problems and demands.The residents of Matli and adjoining panchayats gave a brief account of the problems and demands of their respective panchayats.  A charter of demands was also presented to the Minister highlighting various demands including installation of four hand pumps, provision for community facility centre; veterinary dispensary, provision for electric poles etc were projected.

Dr Manohar Lal Sharma while responding to the demands of the people said that efforts are being made to mitigate the water problem of the malti Panchayat. He assured that problem of drinking water will be addressed very shortly. He also directed Executive Engineer PWD to take up the roadwork from Rampur to Malti & Surara to Matli immediately.  He also directed PDD officers to install electric poles identified by Sarpanchs. He passed instructions to PHE department to provide water supply in left out areas. He also took strong note of delay of ration supply in some areas. He also directed Sarpanch Malti to submit Panchayat resolution regarding playground land so that matter can be taken up with the Sports Minister for further action. Dr Manohar Lal Sharma also distributed relief cheques to the tune of Rs 1.05 lakh among seven families whose houses were damaged in flash floods.SDM Billawar Deep Raj, Tehsildar Billawar, Executive Engineer PMGSY, SHO Billawar, and other tehsil and district level officers were among the present on the occasion.
