Punjab Irrigation Minister Sharanjit Singh Dhillon has thanked Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi for choosing Ludhiana as one of the 98 smart cities to be developed in the country. He said that Ludhiana is one of the leading industrial towns of the country and with more funds coming in for development, it would soon become one of the best in terms of infrastructure in the country.The other cities of the state which are part of Smart Cities are Amritsar, Jalandhar and capital city of Chandigarh. Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that in the next five years, Rs. 3 lakh crore will be spent in developing the towns to provide world class infrastructure, sustainable environment and smart solutions. He said that the Smart City mission is viewed as the government's big push for urban renewal in almost 100 Indian cities and towns.

Further giving details, Mr Dhillon said that the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party led Punjab government, under the dynamic leadership of CM Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal, has already spent crores on several development projects in Ludhiana. He said that the projects which came up during the tenure of SAD-BJP government are the Sidhwan Canal expressway, PUP near Lodhi Club, Lakkar Bridge Flyover, City Bus Service, to name a few. Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that very soon, Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal would be laying foundation stones of several other projects for Ludhiana city as well.
