One day Seminar on “Recent Trends and Regulation of Medical Devices” held at NIPER

Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu, Chief Parliament Secretary, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Punjab was the chief Guest of one Day Seminar on “Recent Trends and Regulation of Medical Devices” held at NIPER, SAS Nagar in collaboration with “Drug Control Administration, Punjab” and “Abbott” a leading manufacturing pharmaceutical company in India. About 150 participants including Drug controllers of Punjab were present on the occasion. Chief guest lighted the lamp alongwith Off. Director Prof.K.K. Bhutani,  Sh. Pradeep Kumar, ADC, Punjab Drug Control Administration, Sh. Shirish Ghoge, Director Abbott.In India 20-30% of urban people and 40-50% of people living in rural areas cannot afford basic health care needs. There should be uniform prices for all medical devices. Provide affordable health care to all and consolidate your position, wherever you are placed----these were the remarkable words of Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu. Dr. Navjot Kaur Sidhu further added that its always important to realize the goal of life. That we are here to heal humanity, never sell your profession. It is important to keep in mind that we are life savers, care takers of the society, being the chosen one blessed by God to serve humanity. So never do any wrong in your life. Explore your vision, the whole universe is your family, go ethical and be humble in your life. Don’t beg from people what you are not entitled to and give your best to heal the society.  

Shirish Ghoge, Director, Abbott said that NIPER is an excellent institute of its kind, offering education and research in pharmaceutical sector in India and today’s seminar is a unique combination of Industrialist, Regulators and academia like in US model where Professor will be actually funding the institute by working in close association with the industry for research based projects. He said that Abbott is no. 1 Company in India who is in medical devices, diagnosis and nutrition’s and does not export its products from India and production in India is purely for Indians.Off. Director NIPER, Prof. K.K. Bhutani expressed his gratitude to the chief guest for attending the seminar. He further added that medical devices which country has ignored for some time is a technology orientated devices, usually we attribute to things like syringes, equipments of hospital aids etc but in reality products like laser technology, all together are medical devices which are used for treatment of a patient.ADC, Sh. Pradeep Kumar expressed his gratitude to NIPER and Abbott for organizing the seminar which will update knowledge of regulators. He expressed his concern on huge gap in prices of medical devices, supplied by government sector with that of the private sector Industries. Medical devices like stents for cardiac patients are directly needed by all patients. And these medial devices do wonders to save life of a patient. He further added that all medical devices should come under the control of DPCO for checking the prices.
