Supreme Committee of the SaifBiladi Program Inspects Sports Camp run by Women Sports Department in Sharjah

His Excellency Ahmed Nasser Al Fardan, Secretary General of the Sharjah Sports Council and board member of the Public Authority for Youth and Sports Management along with others from the supreme committee of the national program ‘SaifBiladi 2015’haveinspected the Women Sports Department Summer Sports Camp at Sharjah Ladies Club (SLC) and been given a tour of its activities. SaifBiladi 2015 is a national sports program organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Community Development and the General Authority for Youth and Sports.The delegation was welcomed by Nada Askar Al Naqbi, Director of SLC Women Sports Department along with members of the management board and members of the camp’s organizing committee who gave a briefing on the activities and events offered by the camp for registered children. During the visit the delegation listened to a detailed explanation about activities including a variety of recreational, educational, and cultural programs, as well as competitions in archery, basketball, volleyball, soccer, table tennis, karate. Information regarding the summer camp’s trips to the Sharjah Discovery Centre and the Sharjah Centre for Astronomy and Space Sciences was also provided. 

Nada Askar Al Naqbi expressed her appreciation of the visit, which she said, reflected the commitment of the Supreme Committee to follow up on the work of clubs involved in the SaifBiladi session for this year. She said, “Due to the efforts of the management and organizers, the camp is a great success this year with all children taking part getting the most out of the sporting events and activities on offer. We have seen the response of the children which reinforces a sense of initiative, determination, and challenge in them. We have also seen the confidence given to the camp by families, who have rushed to register their children after obtaining all relevant information and details. So far 125 boys and girls have participated.” 

Following the briefing the delegation toured the camp, met with children from various age groups and watched a number of contests and training sessions. They also spoke with some of the children who expressed great pleasure and enjoyment of activities at the camp and explained how they have benefited from it. The children said that their participation helped them establish new friendships with peers outside their school circles.The delegation praised the great efforts made by the sports management at Sharjah Ladies Club. HE Khalid Al Midfa, Assistant Secretary-General of the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare and president of the SaifBiladi national program said, “We are pleased with the participation of the Women Sports Department at the Sharjah Ladies Club in the current session of SaifBiladi for the second year in a row and are delighted with their organization of the summer sports camp for children. Thus, we emphasize our strategic partnership with the management, which will continue with the launch of several joint projects and initiatives in the future.”

A Supreme Committee delegation also included Nasser Mohammed Al Zaabi, Deputy General Coordinator of the SaifBiladi national program; Khaled Ali Al Kaabi, Head of the Finance Committee of the SaifBiladi national program; Hamid Al Bastaki, Head of the Specialized Centers Committee; Saeed Al Ajel, Head of the Beach Centers and Sports Clubs Committee; and Ahmed Jawkah, Head of the Media Committee.The Women Sports Department at the Sharjah Ladies Club begun their summer sports camp on 26 July as part of the activities of the ninth session of the SaifBiladi 2015 national program under the slogan "Fun and Innovation", consistent with the management's aim to spread awareness of the importance of exercise for all segments of society, especially women and children. The camp activities will continue until 27 August.The camp, which targets boys from the age of 5-9 years and girls from the age of 6-15 years, aims to raise awareness of the importance of exercise for children, increase the participation of boys and girls in sports, and provide safe places for children to spend their spare time during the summer vacation. The camp is sponsored by SaifBiladi, Al Montazah Park, and Ferrari World.

The Women Sports Department in Sharjah was established in 2008, through a directive issued by HH SheikhaJawaherbint Mohammed Al Qasimi, the wife of His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and Chairperson of Sharjah Ladies Club. It is the first department in the Emirate of Sharjah concerned with women’s sports both at the local and regional level. It aims to build a distinctive athletic women’s society that can compete and win titles in regional and international sports competitions, by overseeing the building of women’s sports teams, and ensuring the provision of an infrastructure conducive to achieving the set goals.
