Sukhbir Badal urges Center to increase deployment of BSF on borders

Says no chance for revival of terrorism in the state

Punjab Deputy Chief Minister today categorically said that deployment of more Border Security Force personnel on the international border with Pakistan was necessary to prevent cross border infiltration.Interacting with media persons here after inaugurating the Mohali Shooting Range, Mr. Badal accompanied by Punjab Revenue Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia, said he had dispatched a communiqué to Union Home Minister Mr. Rajnath Singh for beefing up and deployment of more security forces along the Punjab border to avert any kind of terror strike. He said he had personally visited some forward posts of BSF adjoining the border and observed that more personnel were needed keep watch along the border.  He said the international border adjoining territory of Punjab should have same strength of forces on the pattern of Jammu and Kashmir borders.

On the issue of extradition of militants from foreign shores, Mr. Badal, who is also holding the Home portfolio, said he would take up the issue with the Union government. He also refuted that there was any apprehension of revival of militancy besides asserting that maintaining law and order was foremost priority of state. He said Punjab is a most peaceful state and Punjab Police was capable and ready to combat any anti-national and anti-state activities.

The Home Minister also informed that Punjab would further strengthen its Special Protection Group with a view to meet all exigencies He said that this world class SPU would to be equipped with ultra modern security gadgets, weapons and devices would be capable of launching security operations at vulnerable places to keep the law and order situation under control. He said the State would also deploy an exclusive and dedicated SWAT squad only for border area.  He informed that this SPU and SWAT squads would get the most professional training like US Navy Seal.

Answering a query regarding constant infighting between Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Mr. Partap Singh Bajwa and Amritsar MP Captain Amarinder Singh, Mr. Badal said that the congress leaders were not worrying about the welfare of the common people. He said Captain Amarinder had extended a warning to high command to either appoints him as party chief in the state or he would leave the party. He said that Bajwa and Captain were trying to retain and grab the post of PPCC chief respectively.When asked about flood situation in the state, Mr. Badal said that the situation was under control. He said that directions for regular review and monitoring of situation have also been issued to all Deputy Commissioners. He said that work of cleaning of drains was going on war level besides taking necessary steps by authorities concerned.Prominent amongst those present on the occasion included Mr. Virsa Singh Valtoha, Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Mr. Jangveer Singh, Media Advisor to Deputy Chief Minister etc.
