One day Fish Mela cum awareness programme at Budgam

The department of Fisheries organised one day Fish Mela Cum awareness programme at district Headquarter Budgam today. The programme was inaugurated by District Development Commissioner, Budgam. The programme was organised to give modern scientific expertise to private fish farmers of the district and general awareness of the various schemes to general masses. The program was attended by a good number of private fish farmers, registered fishermen and local people of district, Budgam.The Assistant Director Fisheries highlighted the progress of fisheries sector in the district. The department has been providing financial assistance to unemployment youth for construction of fish rearing units both in Carp and Trout as per feasibility of the area. The private fish farming in carp culture was started in 2005 while trout in 2009.

He said that in district Budgam 74 number of fish farming units have been constructed under central sponsored schemes like PM’s package, RKVY and “National Mission for Protein Supplements” in which 50 number are in carp sector and 24 in trout sector, all the units are running very well, during the current fiscal. The fish production in the district has reached 1147.76 quintals of Carp and 11.2 tons of Trout in the district.On the occasion, the District Development Commissioner, Budgam hailed the role of fisheries in the district and instructed the unemployed youth to come forward and get the benefits of the various schemes run by the department.The Joint Director Fisheries, Kashmir pision gave a detailed profile of overall scenario of the department and various schemes run by the department for the enhanced fish production in private sector.
