Div Com stresses on better transport facilities to general public

Asks SMC for early installation of traffic lights in the city

A high level officers meeting was held under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Dr. Asgar Hassan Samoon here today and various issues regarding restoration of traffic lights in Srinagar City, parking facilities for Radio Taxis operating in the city, additional bus services for providing better transport facilities for the general public and other issues were discussed in the meeting.The meeting was attended by Transport Commissioner, Director Economic Reconstruction Agency, Director Airport Authority, Srinagar, Vice Chairman Lakes and Waterways Development Authority, Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Srinagar, Joint Commissioner Srinagar Municipal Corporation and other officers.

While reviewing the functioning of traffic light system installed by the Srinagar Municipal Corporation at various places of Srinagar City, the Divisional Commissioner was appraised that 27 traffic lights have been installed and more 4 traffic lights will be installed in various places in Srinagar City so that the traffic system runs smoothly.

The Divisional Commissioner stressed upon the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to ensure repairs/maintenance of the traffic lights which have gone out of order.Dr. Samoon was informed that four traffic lights would be installed in Srinagar City within 48 hours.In addition, the Divisional Commissioner was apprised by the Transport Commissioner that providing of better transport facilities to the general public, 10 additional Bus service will be made available to the JKSRTC  among which four buses will be kept available for Srinagar-Muzzafarabad service.While reviewing the operation of Radio Taxis in Srinagar City, the Divisional Commissioner was informed that 35 Radio Taxis are in operation in the City for which the Divisional Commissioner directed the authorities to ensure terminal facilities in City so that the grievances of Radio Taxis operators would be redressed.
