60th Co-operative Week celebrated at Kulgam, Budgam

The Co-operative Department district Kulgam today celebrated its 60th Co-operative Week at Rest House Chawalgam in which about 200 co-operators from different walks of life participated.The Deputy Commissioner while presiding over the function said,” the need of the time is to change the mind set of educated unemployed youth so as to get them actively involved in the profitable business ventures”. The cooperative societies are doing wonders in the other parts of the country besides keeping available all essential commodities to the public, he added.Earlier, the Deputy Registrar Cooperative Society Kulgam highlighted the progress of Cooperative Institutions functioning in the district. He apprised the forum that cooperative sector in the district had made available fertilizers and other essentials to the tune of Rs. 228 lakhs during 2012-13 while essentials worth Rs. 124.55 lakhs have been utilized during the current financial year.It was given out in the function that the Cooperative Department is going to open a Women Consumer Store, Super Market and a Red Cross shop besides fair price shops in the district Hospital Kulgam soon so that the people will be benefited at large.

On the occasion many co-operators also spoke at length about the aspects and achievements of cooperative sector achieved in the Kulgam district. Speaking on the occasion the principal cooperative training college Srinagar said,” cooperative movement is sustained because of its good principles while to give it vitality we need dedication and honesty”.Meanwhile, 60th Co-operative Week was also celebrated in district Budgam today where representatives of 160 cooperative societies registered in the district participated.  District Development Commissioner Budgam presided over the event and termed co-operative movement as a movement of self-reliance, which should take up various activities like  constructing housing colonies, running educational institution, establishing business units and  help government in disinvestment policies.Additional Registrar and Deputy Registrar Co-operative Budgam were present on the occasion and sought help of district administration for providing better marketing facilities to various products of co-operative societies.
