Farmers asked to use advanced technology to boost maize cultivation

District Development Commissioner, Kulgam today inaugurated one day Maize awareness camp at Sports Stadium Kulgam organized by department of Agriculture under centrally sponsored scheme Agriculture Technology Management Agency (ATMA).The awareness camp is being organized to impart the technical skills to progressive farmers in order to increase the production by bringing barren and wastelands under maize cultivation. The camp was attended by almost 500 progressive farmers who had come from different parts of the district to interact with agriculture experts on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said, ‘’the prime focus of the district administration is on agriculture so as to make the people self reliant and socio-economically stable”. He stressed upon the progressive farmers to make use of high yielding varieties of maize and new technique available in the modern times.Speaking on the occasion the Chief Agriculture Officer Kulgam said that the department is trying its best to mould the attention of farmers towards maize cultivation by providing subsidized seeds and other machinery to the progressive farmers.It is pertinent to mention here that the year 2014 is being declared as the Maize year by the government to increase its production
