Day after attack on police, security beefed up in north Kashmir

Government forces on Saturday beefed up security across north Kashmir after militants attacked a police party yesterday late evening in Mirgund area of Baramulla district.Sources told Srinagar based news agency, GNS, that the forces including police’s Special Operation Group (SOG) and army conducted frisking of pedestrians, vehicles and passengers in parts of Baramulla district which include Pattan, Singhpora, Mirgund and others sensitive areas.Four people including Station House Officer (SHO) Pattan were injured after militants opened fire on them at Mirgund during searches. The injured include three cops and a driver of Tavera vehicle in which militants were travelling.

Sources said that the heightened security arrangements were made as government forces suspected the presence of militants in Pattan and its adjoining areas. The forces, however, didn’t arrest or detain anyone during the frisking and search operations.Meanwhile, sources told GNS that the injured SHO would be flown to Appolo Hospital, New Delhi tomorrow for specialized treatment. The SHO was initially referred to 92 Base Hospital of army and today he was shifted to SKIMS Soura.The militants, after attacking police, had managed to escape from the spot. (GNS)
