The two-day 4th National Heart Failure Summit and LWSIC 2015 (Live Workshop & Symposium on Interventional Cardiology),a joint collaboration of HEART Foundation, Fortis Hospital, IMA and Cardiology Society of India, started at Lalit Hotel today.The MP Rajya Sabha Avinash Rai Khanna inaugurated the event that is fourth in line of academic pursuits the Heart Foundation offers to young cardiologists of India.Stating this here today the renowned international cardiologist and chief patron of the Heart Foundation Dr HK Bali flanked by international faculty Dr Luis A. Guzman, Associate Professor, Division of Cardiology, University of Florida Health, Florida - U.S.A. and Dr Miroslaw Ferenc, Interventionelle Kardiologie, University Heart Center Bad Krozingen, Germany said that focus in first day of this two day conference was on heart failure and endovascular diseases.

“Two day course for young and budding interventional cardiologists in collaboration with SCAI also started wherein about 100 of the most promising cardiologists are attending as invited delegates,” he said.Dr Bali added that about 400 delegates from different parts of country attended the deliberations on the first day. Dr Bali and his team carried out live interventional procedures in Cath Lab of Fortis Hospital which were shown live at the venue site. Dr Bali showed how heart failure pacemakers are implanted.In the afternoon a case in which large artery (aorta) had hit dissected was repaired non-surgically by stent graft. It is first time that stent graft deployment was shown live in the region.

During the conference Dr Mandeep Bhargava from Cleveland Clinic US gave a lecture on how to treat dangerous arrhythmias if the heart particularly when they occur in patient if heart failureDr Saibal Kar from Cedars Senai Hospital US talked about non pharmacological treatment for terminal heart failure. He showed that artificial mechanical hearts like left ventricular assist devices are extremely useful in patients with refractory heart failure.Dr Guzman from US talked about latest advances in managing complex diseases of large arteries. Delegates were seen actively participating in discussion and clarifying their doubts about new treatment options.Dr Bali said that tomorrow, focus will be on Coronary artery diseases and newer devices for treating them. He also said the technique of deploying aortic valve will be discussed in detail.
