Thousands visit Tibet Expo in Shimla

The Tibet Museum of Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) on the invitation of the Tibetan community of Shimla, showcased a rare photo exhibition at the historic Ridge, a prime tourist destination located in the heart of the state capital, recently.The photo exhibition was organised to celebrate the 77th birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama.The exhibition showcased a biography of His Holiness the Dalai Lama featuring his early life in Tibet, exile in India, his meeting with Indian leaders and world leaders, and prestigious awards and honours conferred on him.Apart from the exhibition on His Holiness the Dalai Lama, an exhibition titled ‘Glimpses on the history of Tibet’ was put on display. Some 27 photo panels depict defining moment of history of Tibet from the origin of Tibetan plateau and Tibetan race, religious kings of Tibet, rise of Buddhism in Tibet and its annexation by People’s Republic of China.A free medical camp of traditional Tibetan medicine with free consultation and medicine was also held next to the photo exhibition site for Indians, both locals and tourists.More than 1,500 people comprising of local residents, tourists from other Indian cities as well as international tourists thronged in large number to watch the rare photo exhibition. Publications from DIIR were also distributed for free in large numbers.
