Dalai Lama to address Tibetan Muslim Community in Srinagar

Dalai Lama will visit Srinagar at the special invitation of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the state government from today to  18 July.His Holiness will address the members of the Tibetan Muslim community at a special function organised by the officials of the Tibetan Public school, located at Hawal in Srinagar.The special function will be attended by a battery of dignitaries including chief minister Omar Abdullah, state tourism minister, and Tibetan Parliament Speaker Penpa Tsering.There will be Tibetan and Kashmiri cultural performances by schoolchildren.The Tibetan Public School was first built in 1978 as a primary school for the Tibetan Muslims at Id-gah, Srinagar with 25 students and two teachers. The school later shifted to Hawal in Srinagar and it currently has 550 students and 35 teachers with classes up to 10th standard.The new  building of the school was inaugurated by former Education Kalon Thupten Lungrig of the Central Tibetan Administration in 2004.His Holiness the Dalai Lama will also visit the Tibetan Muslim locality and will have audiences with older generations of the Tibetan Muslim community during his stay in Srinagar.This is His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s third visit to Srinagar since his first and second visit in 1975 and 1987 respectively.His Holiness will leave Srinagar on 18 July for Leh and Ladakh, where he will give a series of teachings and talks.
