Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday condemned the continuous imposition of curfew in Rajouri, large scale arrests of Muslim youth and “an extremely aggressive posture of the state against Muslims in the town.”“Qalima-e-Toiba is holy to all Muslims across the world and nobody would tolerate its desecration. The government did not take any action against those elements who burnt the flags emblazoned with Qalima-e-Toiba, but imposed curfew, arrested Muslim youth and subjected them to state sponsored terror. Such actions of the state do create fear and insecurity among the local population there,” he said in a statement to KNS.

Terming the activities of right wing Hindu extremist groups in Rajouri under the garb of democracy as unacceptable, Mirwaiz said, “The reaction of Kashmiri people and business as well as other socio political organizations to such an incident was a natural one. All protests against anti-Muslim riots were legitimate, adding, the Muslims of Rajouri were deliberately left on the mercy of blood thirsty right wing Hindu fanatics who were orchestrating terror against them.”“Such incidents were an open reflection of the fact that state machinery was backing and facilitating these elements which displays the anti-people and communal policies adopted by the present dispensation,” he said.

The Hurriyat (M) Chairman said that the local district administration has taken no action against the miscreants who desecrated Qalima, but they were conducting raids on the houses of Muslims to arrest the youth. “Ss such the situation in Rajouri was being deliberately pushed towards the edge.”Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) spokesman termed the strike call given by KCCI and other trade organizations for 25th July regarding the ‘state terror’ in Rajouri as legitimate. He said people would observe strike and express complete solidarity with the people of Rajouri.
