Locals of few hamlets from South Kashmir’s Kulgam district Thursday alleged that Indian soldiers from 1 RR went on a rampage and beat scores of people to pulp ‘without any provocation’ on Tuesday evening.Reports said that on Tuesday scores of youth from different hamlets of Kulgam district including Rampora, Mishipora, Hawoorah, Kujar and Redwani Bala attacked Army vehicles with stones resulting in the damage of some of their vehicles. Locals told CNS that soon after the stone- throwing incidents, a group of Army personnel thrashed passersby and damaged some of the private vehicles. “The window panes of two vehicles of Mustafa Memorial School JK18-6294, JK184272 and a trawler JK0E-3310 were smashed by the agitated soldiers and when I tried to intervene they ordered me to get back into the house,” the Principal of the school Muzaffar Ahmed told CNS adding that Army personnel damaged glasses worth Rs 54,000 that he had procured from Ludhiana Punjab a few days back.

Locals alleged that some Army personnel also roughed up a student Omar Bashir Sheikh from Rampora and he was shifted to hospital.Refuting the allegation, an Army official from Chinar Corps told CNS that scores of miscreants cornered Army vehicles and amid anti-India and ‘Burhan Aaya, Burhan Aaya’ (Burhan, the top militant commander of Hizbul Mujhadeen) slogans, indiscriminately hurled stones on the vehicles, resulting in the damage of several vehicles. “The windowpanes of the some of the private vehicles were also got damaged when miscreants pelted stones. Army exercised maximum restraint and called the respectable citizens, appealing them to curb their children who instead said that they have no control on these unruly youth,” the official said and added that no Army personnel touched, harassed or roughed up any innocent civilian.
