Priya Sethi, Yudhvir Sethi tour rain hit areas, direct for immediate restoration of drainage system

To assess the damage caused to infrastructure due to recent rains in Mohalla Prem Nagar and adjoining areas, Minister of State for Education, Information, and Culture Priya Sethi and Senior Leader Yudhvir Sethi today toured the area and issued on spot instructions for immediate restoration of lanes, drains and other infrastructure.Acting swiftly on the problems projected by the people, Priya had earlier toured the area and assured the residents for early start of the restoration works. It was noted that rainwater and water from adjoining nallah was directly hitting foundation of the houses in the locality.

Deputy Commissioner, Jammu Simrandeep Singh, representatives of Delhi Public School, Executive Engineers of PWD, JMC, UEED, officers and engineers of other concerned line departments accompanied the Minister.

Taking stock of the problems, Priya directed the UEED department to submit project report for the area so that the issue raised by the people is addressed at the earliest. She called upon the Deputy Commissioner to monitor the progress of work and ensure that the problems raised by the people are addressed on priority.The issue of managing outward flow of water from the school premises was also discussed and the school management assured that immediate necessary steps would be taken to deal with the water flow.Assuring time bound redressal of the issues, Priya called upon the authorities to immediately start the restoration work. “Since more rains are expected, the departments should ensure that the damaged infrastructure is repaired and a permanent arrangement for drainage is made in the area” She added.

“The residents are living in constant fear of building collapse due to water percolating deep into foundations, hence a proper plan has to be made for the area to ensure that no damage is done to property or lives of people,” She stressed. Priya also stressed on ensuring regular supply of water and called upon the PHE department to strictly monitor availability of potable water in the locality. She said keeping in view the monsoon season quality of drinking water has to be maintained by the concerned departments so as to save the people from water borne disease.
