Eid-ul-Fitar to be celebrated on Saturday

Muslims across Jammu and Kashmir would be celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Tuesday, marking the culmination of the holy month of Ramadan.Thousands of people are expected to attend congregational Eid prayers in Eidgahs, Masjids and Shrines across the State where scholars and clerics would throw light on the significance of Eid-ul-Fitr.The biggest gathering of the devotees will be witnessed at Hazratbal Shrine with around 80,000 people expected to offer congregational prayers while as Eidgah ground in old city is set to record an attendance of 50,000 devotees.Chairman Huriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq will address people ahead of the prayers of Eid scheduled to be held at Eid Gah at 10 in the morning. In case of inclement weather according to Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Eid Namaaz will be offered at historic Jamia Masjid Srinagar. Tourist Reception Centre ground near Lal Chowk is also being prepared to host the prayers of thousands of Muslims . The reports maintained that 25,000 people last year offer prayers at the venue while as over 10,000 Muslims will offer prayers at Syed Yaqoob Shah Shrine at Sonawar.

Jamait-e-Ahlhadees has announced that Eid prayers at Polo Ground Srinagar would be held at 8 am.Chairman of Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah is scheduled to offer prayers at Dargah Hazratbal here provided the government releases him from house arrest.Officials stated that the administration is on the tenterhooks to provide all necessary arrangements for the devotees who would in large numbers offer congregational Eid prayers at various places of valley. The state transport has also been kept ready to ferry people from the respective places. Large gatherings are also expected in main Eidgahs, shrines and Masjids of Pulwama, Kupwara, Handwara, Pattan, Sumbal, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Budgam, Charar-i-Sharif, Shopian, Bijbehara, Beerwah, Tral, Pampore, Kulgam, Jammu, Doda, Kishtwar, Bhaderwah, Poonch and Rajouri.

After the prayers, people would visit their relatives to extend Eid greetings. Pertinently, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on first day of the Islamic month of Shawwal, marking the culmination of month-long Ramadan. Shawwal is the 10th month of the lunar Islamic calendar.Eid is a day of joy and thanksgiving. Muslims celebrate the day by thanking Almighty Allah for bestowing them with the blessings of Ramadan. They prepare delicacies, wear new clothes, give each other gifts and put up lights and other decorations in their homes.Meanwhile, a day before Eid-ul-Fitr, markets in the summer capital and elsewhere were abuzz with shoppers—something that wasn’t the case for the past week. People were seen buying clothes and toys for children apart from food and bakery items. (CNS)
