Says Panchayat bodies have pivotal role in development process

Seeking full cooperation from Panchayat Raj representatives in successful implementation of public welfare and developmental programs, the Minister for Rural Development and Panchayti Raj, Abdul Haq has stressed upon them to put in efforts with zeal and dedication to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system for ensuring the democratic decentralization of the powers at grassroots level so that people are actively involved in day to day governance.The Minister said this while addressing a gathering of representatives of Panchayati Raj institutions at Banquet Hall here today.The Minister said government is committed for ensuring an era of unprecedented development and uplift of socio-economic conditions of people with dignity and honor for which Panchayati Raj institutions play pivotal role. He said PRIs in the State will be strengthened by equipping them with computer and internet facilities so that all information is available online to ensure transparency and accountability besides increasing efficiency of the PRIs real time data. He also said that all Panchayats will be provided a Common Facilitation Center for public utility purposes.

Mr. Haq said that funds have been made available for implementing various schemes in Rural Development Department   and time line has been set up for the completion of all developmental projects.Mr. Haq sought the cooperation of the PRIs in effective implementation of the Government’s developmental programmes. He also sought their support in maintaining transparency and quality of works besides ensuring judicious utilization of funds. He said PRIs role is pivotal in development process and all possible support will be provided to Panchayat bodies.The Minister also sought suggestions from the PRIs for making these institutions more reliable and well-organized.Director Rural Development Department, Kashmir Mr. Tasaduq Jeelani was also present on the occasion.Earlier, the representatives of Panchayati Raj Institutions put forth their issues and demands before the Minister through a charter. The Minister assured them that all their issues will be redressed on priority.
