Heavy rain continues in Himachal

The hills of Himachal Pradesh continued to experience moderate to heavy rainfall on Saturday, causing landslides in some areas and blocking the highways.All the major rivers and their tributaries were in spate, and moderate to heavy rainfall would continue till Sunday, officials of the local Met office said.While Paonta Sahib town recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 150 mm, it was 107 mm in Nahan, 73 mm in Una, 61 mm in Kasauli and 10 mm in Manali. The state capital Shimla saw 17 mm rain.The maximum temperature in Himachal decreased by four to five degrees, while the minimum by one to two degrees in the past 24 hours.

Shimla recorded a high of 17.1 degrees, while it was 14.8 degrees in Kalpa and 24.6 degrees in Dharamsala.Incessant rains have also caused massive landslides on National Highways 21 and 22 in Shimla, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Mandi Kullu districts, hampering movement of traffic.The water level in the major rivers of the state - the Satluj, Beas and Yamuna - which enter the neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana has increased, a government official said.
