G M Saroori chairs Environment Committee meet

Panel discusses possibility of setting up CNG stations in JK

A meeting of Committee on Environment of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly was held under the chairmanship of MLA, Mr G M Saroori to discuss the environment concerns of J&K.Legislators, Shamima Firdous, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Altaf Ahmad Wani, Mohammad Amin Bhat, Daleep Singh, Dr Krishan Lal, Mohammad Abass Wani, Aijaz Ahmad Mir, Dina Nath, Neelam Kumar Langeh, Davinder Kumar Manyal, Gulzar Ahmed Wani, Mumtaz Ahmad, Dr Gagan Bhagat and Anjum Fazili were present in the meeting and gave their suggestions to improve the functioning of the committee.The committee discussed measures initiated by the department to provide CNG/LPG as an alternate fuel in the autos besides installation of LPG/CNG stations in Jammu and Srinagar. The committee sought status report from concerned department on autos besides any plan to replace the diesel autos by CNG/LPG in the State especially Jammu and Srinagar cities within one month for scrutiny of the committee.

The committee discussed total number of Pollution Checking Centers in the state and asked the concerned authorities to ensure proper monitoring and checking to these centers. The committee sought report on working of these centers within 15 days for further strengthening of these centers.The members of the Committee have expressed serious concern over the pollution and its impact by many ways on environment in the State besides gave some suggestions to safeguard the environment in the state.Secretary, Transport Department, Baseer A Khan apprised the committee about the working of the transport department to protect environment in the state.

 Inspector General Traffic, JP Singh, apprised the Committee about the steps being taken by the department in respect of regulation and management of traffic in the state especially in the cities of Jammu and Srinagar to defuse high traffic density and to restraint the frequent traffic jams.Chairman, Pollution Control Board, Abdul Razak, other Senior Officers of concerned department besides officers of Assembly Secretariat were attended the meeting.
