Badal Reiterates Commitment To Impart Quality Education To The Students In Government Schools

Six 'Special Schools' And Dr. Hargobind Khurana Post Matric Scholarship Scheme To Facilitate Poor And Meritorious Students

Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today said that the state government was taking path breaking initiatives for imparting quality education to the students of weaker and unprivileged sections in the government schools. Replying to query on the floor of the house, the Chief Minister said that in order to tap the hidden potential amongst the bright students of the rural areas, the state government was laying special emphasis on strengthening rural education system. He said that ‘Special Schools’ were being opened in six districts of the state to impart quality education to poor and bright students securing 80% or more marks at Matric level in the Government schools. Mr. Badal said that these students would be provided free professional education along with boarding and lodging facility to enable them to compete with their convent educated peers. Likewise, the Chief Minister informed the house that the state government would soon launch Dr. Hargobind Khurana post matric scholarship under which Rs 30000 per annum would be given to the meritorious students regardless of the income limit, who secure 80% or more marks, for further study at senior secondary level. Mr. Badal said that under this scheme Rs 2500 would be transferred into the bank accounts of the students every month so as to enable them to compete with their peers in convent and private schools.
