Lashing out at the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for running away like a fugitive from the crucial budget session, Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh said he (Sukhbir) owed an explanation to the people of Punjab whom he had fooled, cheated and let down.Addressing a series of public meetings in different villages of Dasuya assembly segment in support of the party candidate for the by-election Arun Mickey Dogra, Capt Amarinder pointed out as how Sukhbir had ran away like a typical fugitive to escape the harsh questioning by the Congress legislators in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha for cheating and failing the people of Punjab on all the promises he had made to them before the elections.Asserting that the Deputy Chief Minister and the Chief Minister were great liars who had always done the politics of lying, he pointed out, they had promised to give laptops to the students and now they have decided to give them tablets only and nobody was sure whether they will give them the tablets even.Counting other promises on which the Akalis failed the people, he said, they had promised to provide unemployment allowance of Rs 1000 per month to all the unemployed people of the state and now they are saying they will provide it only to the graduates and that too to only those who are registered with the unemployment exchanges for last three years.Similarly the former Chief Minister referred to Sukhbir’s promises of round the clock power six years ago. “Do you remember that he promised to provide round the clock power within two years six years ago and now he is asking for two years more and he will never do it”, he told people here, while adding, neither Sukhbir has any intention nor any resources to do that.Capt Amarinder lashed out at the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for playing sectarian politics by raising the Bluestar memorial in Durbar Sahib complex and getting Balwant Singh Rajoana, the convicted assassin of former Chief Minister late Beant Singh declared as “Zinda Shaheed” (living martyr). He said, Badal had always indulged in such type of politics to suit his vested interests at the cost of the Punjabis’ blood.Speaking on the occasion, the Congress Legislative Party leader Sunil Jakhar urged the people to ensure that they taught this government a lesson for its failures. He said, the electoral result in Dasuya will really not make any impact on the survival of the government, but it can certainly convey the message that people are not happy.Jakhar cautioned people that in case they did not get the ruling alliance candidate defeated, the government will get emboldened and impose taxes worth over Rs 3000 crores on the people of Punjab. “If you want to save Punjab from these taxes defeat their candidate and convey them the firm message that you are really not happy with them”, he told the voters.
