The State Special Operations Cell (SSOC) has recovered 24 kgs. heroin worth Rs.120 crores in the international market and arrested four persons, including the main kingpin of the drug trafficking racket Jasbir Singh @ Jassa. This recovery is an important breakthrough in the state wide massive drive against drug trafficking being undertaken on the directions of Mr. Sumedh Singh, Director General of Police, Punjab. Disclosing this here today, Mr. Ashwani Kumar, AIG/Counter Intelligence, Amritsar said that the arrested persons includes Jasbir Singh @ Jassa @ Ghaint s/o Darshan Singh r/o Vill. Manhe Malhiyan, P.S Chhabhal, district Tarn Taran, Kuldip Singh @ Heera s/o Mukhtiar Singh r/o Vill. Maari Kamboke, P.S Khalra, district Tarn Taran, Avtar Singh @ Taari s/o Gurbhej Singh r/o Vill. Karmuwal, P.S. Harike, district Tarn Taran and Tarsem Singh @ Pappu s/o Saudagar Singh r/o Vill. Chohla Sahib, district Tarn Taran. He said that a Case FIR No. 8 dated 27-10-2013 u/s 21/25/29 NDPS Act has been registered in police station SSOC. 

The AIF/CI revealed that the kingpin of the group, Jasbir Singh @ Jassa @ Ghaint was first arrested in 2010 by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) along with 54 kgs. of heroin and was undergoing 15 year imprisonment after his conviction, at Central Jail, Amritsar. He was recently released on 6 weeks parole. During his parole period, he revived his old Pakistan contacts and received the consignment of 24 kgs. of heroin in the Fazilka sector on the intervening night of 25/26 October 2013. He informed that on October 27, 2013 when he was travelling with his associates in a white colour Innova Car No. PB-11BA 6739 to deliver the consignment they were intercepted by a police party of the State Special Operations Cell. He said that the arrested persons were being questioned in detail to establish their Pak contacts and the Indian end where delivery of contraband was to be made. The arrested persons were being produced in court on October 28, 2013 where their police remand for further interrogation is being sought. Further investigations were ongoing, he added.
