Abdul Majeed Padder directs speedy restoration of rain-hit infrastructure in Kulgam

Minister of State for PHE, Forest, Animal Husbandry and Irrigation & Flood Control, Abdul Majeed Padder on Monday asked the concerned authorities to take appropriate measures to restore and repair the affected water supply and irrigation canals in Kulgam district, besides restoration of other essential services.The Minister gave these directions during his extensive tour of the rain-hit areas of Kulgam district including Noorabad. The Minister reviewed the status of the ongoing restoration works being carried out by various departments.The Minister was accompanied by senior officers of District Administration, Kulgam besides officers of PDD, PHE, R&B, CA&PD, Forest, Irrigation and Flood Control and other departments and visited Chimer, Kandimarg, Arapora, Ahmadabad, Reshipora, Batpora and other villages and inspected restoration works on bridges, culverts, canals, roads, besides power and drinking water supply which were damaged during recent rains.

Mr. Padder, directed the concerned authorities to speed up the pace of restoration and repair works and complete them within the shortest possible time.

He also inspected the damages caused to orchards, paddy and other crops and directed the concerned authorities to start immediate loss assessment.

During his visit, the Minister also directed the concerned to restore irrigation canal flowing through Aadpora, Khul, Ahmadabad, Kandimarg and Chimer within two days, besides take up the necessary protection work on the bund. He also instructed for widening of Ahmadabad Ziyarat road so that smooth movement of traffic is ensured.Mr. Padder announced 6 bathroom points at D H Pora for the convenience of the public, besides fencing for the Ziyarat Baba Chapa Reshi.The Minister also announced assistance under IAY scheme to three families whose houses were damaged during recent rains.Meanwhile the Minister directed the district administration and Irrigation and flood control department to launch special demolition drive along the embankments of river and remove all illegal plantations on it.
