‘Urges GoI to hold meaningful talks with Pakistan to end stalemate on border’

Former Minister and senior Congress leader Manjit Singh today appealed for restoration of peace on border and urged Government of India to hold meaningful talks to end the stalemate between Indian and Pakistan border guards which was continue from many days.“Not only the farmers of this side have been facing problems, the people on other side of the International Border have also been facing same problems,” he said, while insisting on both the countries to hold talks to end the firing on border so that the suffering of the people could be reduced.Singh today visited border villages of his constituency to access situation and losses suffered by the villagers in last night’s mortar shelling on this side of International Border.During his visit, Manjit Singh went to village Nanga and Dadyal where he met Mangal Dass whose residential house has developed cracked after a mortar shell fell on the roof top his house.Though no human loss took place, Singh said, the poor villager was worried about the safety of his family members who have been rendered homeless by Pak Army shelling on their village.

He said that many days have passed to the continuous firing on across the International Border especially on the villages but the Government has yet not made any concert policy for providing safe shelters to the affected families.

Singh was addressing a public gathering, during which, he appealed Government to form a proper policy for the settlement of those families who have shifted for safety purpose from their villages.“The Government should not take the problems being faced by the border people lightly instead take necessary steps for the safety and security of the poor farmers and their cattles,” Singh said.Meanwhile, he demanded a proper probe into the alleged favoritism in granting cattle sheds by the administration in Samba. He said that funds were issued by the Government to provide cattle sheds to the poor villagers who did not afford to have their own sheds but they were being ignored and non deserving people were being given preference.And there was a need to investigate where the funds go, he demanded.
