Asks authorities to take immediate steps for removal of bottlenecks

In connection with widening of National Highway and to intensify removal of bottlenecks, the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Dr Asgar Hassan Samoon convened a high level meeting of officers and took stock of widening of National Highway in the Valley. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Srinagar, Baramulla, Bandipora, Anantnag, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Chief Engineer Power Development Department, Chief Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control, Chief Engineer Border Roads Organization (Beacon) and other senior officers. The Div Com directed the concerned Deputy Commissioners of Anantnag, Pulwama and Srinagar to take immediate steps for removal of structures and other encroachments on National Highway so that the widening of the Highway goes smoothly. 

He stressed upon the concerned authorities to ensure compensation to the affected people.  Dr. Samoon also reviewed the pace of road widening work on Baramulla-Kupwara-Chowkibal, Payerpora-Gothamdori, Kralpora-Meelyal, Hajibal-Zadgali-Machil, Handwara-Lach-Nowgam, Chowkibal-Tangdhar, Chamkote Highway. He also took stock of road widening work done on the National Highway from Parimpora to Narbal, Pantha Chowk to Zewan and Lasjan and asked the authorities for immediate removal of bottlenecks.The Div Com was also apprised about the bottlenecks in the way of Bandipora-Gurez road, Sumbal Sonawari Highway and Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road.

Dr. Samoon also took stock of removal of bottlenecks of Baramulla-Uri-Kaman Post Highway and directed the Chief Engineer Border Roads Organization for widening and renovation of the N. S, Twin and Red bridges.The Div Com directed the concerned Deputy Commissioners and Chief Engineer, Border Roads Organization for immediate removal of bottlenecks on the Highway and ensures compensation of affected families whose land has been acquired under the widening of National Highway.The Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control Kashmir apprised the Div Com that the embankment work on the banks of river Jehlum is in full swing and demolition of encroachment is a pace.
