Transport Department To Establish Authorized Testing Station In The State In Collaboration With Central Institute Of Road Transport Pune

The Transport Department Punjab today approved to establish Authorized Testing Station (ATS) in the state in collaboration with CIRT Pune on PPP model through PIDB Punjab.According to an official spokesman of the transport department that the Authorized Testing Station (ATS) would be initially set up to inspect and certify the in-use transport vehicles for its safety and emission compliance as per CMVR, 1989. He said as per new proposed Motor Vehicle Act, there is a proposal for mandatory inspection & Certification of Non-Transport vehicles also after every five years.The spokesman further said that this centre would house inspection lanes for testing various categories of vehicles. The inspection lane would have test equipment arranged like a production line through which the vehicles go through for the inspections. 

He said the pass/ fail decision on the inspections would be entered in the computer network and at the end of the lane, the test report is generated. I&C centre will consist of Vehicle inspection lanes, Administration Office and Parking space for vehicles waiting for testing.He further said that State Government should significantly help improve & maintain vehicle fitness, serviceability, air quality standards and shall also further helps to compliance of vehicles with fitness norms and emission norms through an effective vehicle inspection system and will also improve image of Transport Department.The spokesman further said that the State Transport Department has selected CIRT, Pune for its appointment as Project Management consultant to establish Authorized Testing Station (ATS) on PPP Model in the State of Punjab. A Memorandum of Understanding has been signed in this regard between Department of Transport and Director, CIRT.
