Committee to decide on suburban trains for Bengaluru: Suresh Prabhu

A technical committee will be constituted to look into the demand for suburban train services for Bengaluru, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said here on Saturday.Speaking at the inauguration of a new station building at Bengaluru city railway station, union Minister for Law and Justice Sadananda Gowda and union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ananth Kumar demanded suburban train services on the lines of Mumbai.They highlighted the perennially increasing road traffic and difficulties faced by the people in the city.Prabhu said that completing the pending railway projects was the priority right now."The railways is also planning to avail financial assistance from LIC India for executing various projects," said Prabhu, adding that the railways was open to taking financial assistance from other sources as well.

He said more importance would be given to passenger safety and on providing hygienic food.The new station building at Bengaluru city railway station built at a cost of Rs.5.5 crore has nine ticket counters and an AC lounge among other facilities.Through video link, Prabhu also inaugurated another station building at Krishnarajapuram railway station, 64 staff quarters at Hubballi and foot overbridges in Alnavar, Koppal and Almatti railway stations.
