In a notable flood rehabilitation initiative, the Sajid Iqbal Foundation today distributed cheques amounting to Rs 1 lakh each among 27 poorest of the poor flood-affected families from across Kashmir. The funds have been raised by the Foundation from DBS India - a multinational bank with its India headquarters in Mumbai.According to the Foundation functionaries, as the funds were limited, the idea was to reach out to families who had no other source of income and also did not receive any relief from insurance companies. These included 20 widow-headed families and three families who had members critically ill."We are grateful to DBS India for coming forward and funding this initiative that builds on our comprehensive relief and rehabilitation work across the state during the floods last year. After exhaustive groundwork, we identified worst- hit families in Srinagar, Anantnag and Pulwama that form the beneficiary group", said Sehar Iqbal, the Executive Director of Sajid Iqbal Foundation."This is our third major outreach program in the last six months and will continue working on our areas of focus - legal aid, emergency response and peace education", she added. The event was organized at the fifth annual meet of the Foundation.
