Delhi HC denies interim relief to radio taxi operators

The Delhi High Court on Monday denied interim relief to an association of radio taxi operators who in their plea sought non-licensed app-based cabs be taken off the national capital's roads.The court posted the plea for July 22.Hearing the plea filed by the association, Justice Mukta Gupta said similar petitions have been pending before a division bench of the court and refused to pass any interim order on its plea. The court tagged the plea with other public interest litigations (PILs).

The association which represents radio taxis like Mega Cabs, Easy Cabs and Meru Cabs etc., sought direction that websites of non-licensed app-based cabs like Uber, Ola, Taxi for Sure and others be blocked.The plea said CEOs and top officials of unlicensed app-based cab operators be prosecuted, punished and penal action initiated against the owners and drivers of cabs which operate for such companies.The association said that despite the government's ban on app-based cabs, these companies continue to operate and offer their services through their websites.
