Minister calls for promoting culture of voluntary blood donation among youth

Minister for Health and Medical Education, Choudhary Lal Singh today called for promoting the culture of voluntary blood donation especially among the youth.Addressing a function at LD Hospital here organized in connection with the launching of blood donation campaign, the Minister highlighted the importance of donating blood voluntarily in saving the lives of the people.He urged the youth to lead a healthy life style by adopting good habits, regular exercise, balanced and a nutritious diet and regular blood donation. He appealed to the people in general and the medical fraternity in particular to scale up their efforts for promoting concept of voluntary blood donation. He said blood donation is a life-saving act which should be inculcated by the youth.

The Minister said the month long campaign will focus on commitment from healthy individuals to become voluntary blood donors. “The aim is to equip the youth with information on blood safety and the benefits of voluntary blood donation,” he said and stressed upon the youth to keep away from drugs.The Blood Donation campaign is being organized by the Jammu and Kashmir State AIDS Prevention and Control Society (JKSACS) in collaboration with LD Hospital Srinagar. Principal Government Medical College, Srinagar, Deputy Director Drug Controller, Medical Superintendents of SMHS and LD Hospital, faculty members, paramedical, Nursing Students members of NGOS were present on the occasion.
