Kairon Demands Sarbjit's Early Release Welcomes The Release Of Surjit Singh

Asks Pakistan To Liberate All Pows

Adaish Partap Singh Kairon, Food and Civil Supply Minister, Punjab, today demanded early release of  Sarbjit Singh, an Indian prisoner lodged in Pakistan's Kot Lakhpat jail since last 22 years. He also welcomed the release of Surjit Singh by the Pakistan Government. He urged Pakistan to release all the prisoners of war (POWs) languishing in jails of Pakistan. In a press communiqué he said that Pakistan should consider the case of Sarbjit and POWs and taken on early decision on human grounds.  He said that all the Indian prisoners who had completed their sentence in the jail must be liberated. Kairon expressed sympathies with the members of Sarbjit Singh's family and said that their agony and pain could not be expressed in words. Terming the release of Surjit Singh by Pakistan, a good gesture, he urged Pakistan to further strengthen the bonds of brotherhood by releasing all the POWs. He said that through such kind of initiatives both the countries would come closer on the way of peace and prosperity. Kairon also appealed Union Ministry of External Affairs to take up the matter with Pakistan and to ensure early release of all Indian prisoners lodged in the various jails of Pakistan.
