Killing of Sikh youth:Sikhs set effigy of Indian Home Minister on fire

Scores of people from Sikh Community were arrested near Amirakadal Gurudwara in Srinagar city on Friday after they staged a protest amid pro-Khalistan slogans against the killing of a Sikh youth in police firing in Jammu on Thursday evening. Jagjit Singh son of Narveer Singh of RS Pura, was killed when police opened fired at people who were protesting against removal of a poster of Sikh militant leader late Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale at Satwari Jammu on Thursday.The killing sparked violent protests forcing authorities to impose curfew in sensitive parts of Jammu. Authorities even, suspended the mobile internet services to maintain peace and order. In Srinagar city, people from Sikh community staged protests at Amira Kadal and Press Enclave and demanded judicial probe into the incident. Eyewitnesses told CNS that scores of people from Sikh Community assembled outside Amirakadal Gurudwara and burnt down the effigy of Indian Home Minister Rajnath Singh.Amid pro-Khalistan, anti-India and anti-Jammu Kashmir Police slogans that protesters alleged that government of India is targeting the minorities and has given a free hand to police to kill the innocent people. “The killing of innocent youth in Jammu has once again proven that police has been given a license to shoot and kill. The slain youth was hit in head which indicates that it was a target killing,” chairman All Parties Sikh Coordination Committee, Jagmohan Singh Raina told CNS.
Scores of Sikhs appeared in Press Enclave Srinagar. Carrying long saffron colour banters, the protesters shouted slogans infavour of late Jarnail Singh Bindrawale. “We support separate land for Sikhs in the form of Khalistan. Bindrawale laid his precious life for this cause and the movement that he started will never die,” said a Sikh protester.Police arrested scores of Sikh protesters and lodged them in different police stations. Sikhs also staged demonstrations in South Kashmir’s Awantipora and Tral town of Pulwama district. Police swung into action and detains scores of Sikh protesters after they tried to block Srinagar-Jammu highway. Similar protests were also staged by Sikh community in Baramulla district.(CNS)
