Acknowledging that farming was no longer a financially viable proposition, the Punjab government now wants farmers of the 'Green Revolution' state to take to fish farming. While pointing out the 'Blue Revolution' through fish farming could transform the status of debt-ridden farmers, Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal on Sunday emphasized the need of strengthening infrastructure in government fish farms to provide high quality fish seed to fish farmers.

Badal visited government fish farms in Sangrur district on Sunday and said that the state government was making all out efforts for promoting fish farming in the state."Punjab had pioneered 'Green Revolution' in the country, which was instrumental in providing food security to the country. With escalating input costs and squeezing margins of profit agriculture was no longer a profitable venture due to which the farmers of the state were on the brink of economic crisis. They have to look at other alternatives to supplement their income," he said.He said that farmers will be imparted training in fish farming by experts.
