DRI seizes drugs worth Rs.45.98 crore, 5 held

Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized contraband drugs worth almost Rs.46 crore in the international market from Rajasthan and Gujarat and arrested five people, the finance ministry said on Wednesday.In a statement here, the ministry said DRI seized 218.43 kg Mephedrone Hydrochloride, worth Rs.30.58 crore in the international market, and 15.40 kg Methamphetamine, worth Rs.15.40 crore, in a synchronised operation conducted in Mount Abu and Gandhinagar on May 25. The mastermind of the racket was among those arrested. 

DRI functions under the revenue department of the finance ministry.Mephedrone Hydrochloride, a psychotropic substance as per the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, was seized from Messers Rishi Minechem Pvt. Ltd. in Mount Abu while Methamphetamine was seized from M/s Lucent Pharma in Gandhinagar, the statement said.Those arrested included a director of Rishi Minechem, a partner of Lucent Pharma, a chemist and a technical expert. Further investigations are on, the statement added.
